I was going over some of the transfer rumors for Spurs over the last 6 months and what caught my eye was how Gareth Bale, from being a project left back on our bench went to become one of the most highly rated left midfielders if not in the world then at least in the premier league. Here are some rumors to back that. End December 2009, Nottingham Forest was planning to launch a 3m bid to land him, by April 2010, Juventus planed a 13m bid, end of April Man U was lining up a 20m offer and that was before he won the best player of the month award!!! I can comfortably say that there is no Spurs fan which would sell off Bale for 20m, at 20 years of age and the type of form he is showing allot of England critics are wishing he was registered for England to solve our cronic left midfield problem. Back in November 2009, I remember me and allot of the fans here were discussing how badly we needed a left sided midfielder (this was when Modric was away for a few games and before we landed Kranjcar). Funny thing is some of us saw Giovanni as our long term solution and nobody considered the fact that we actually already have the player we need sitting on the bench!!! I have to say, Bale is potentially one of the biggest gems we have bought in ages and what is the best news? Imagine having both Bale AND Lennon fit and playing crossing balls into Crouch? Damn I am looking forward to next season 

THE MOST BOUNTIFUL LEFT FOOT in EPL as of right now. I don't see him at Spurs for very long despite Champions league promise.

Bale will certainly be getting a pay rise from Spurs over summer. Clearly we won't want to sell him but i wonder if there is a price at which we will sell him if he gets his head turned by a big club eg Inter, Real madrid...everyone has a price right and you can bet those type of clubs are circling. Probably not leaving this year i'm picking however it turns out with CL. It does raise a concern i have though about Spurs and that is the salary cap we currently employ - to be competitive in both the EPL and CL that cap will have to raise as i think that is why our best players leave ie Carrick, Berbatov, Keane (sic), and why we can't attract the really big stars. A fine balance between financial prudence and moving the club up to the next level.

@Stephen, the problem with the salary cap is that Spurs, although a big club is #1 a PLC (Which Inter and Real Madrid you mentioned are not), which means shareholders want to see a profit and reap a healthy dividend. #2 Is that we are in dept and that will only be getting larger in the near future #3 We, unlike all other top 15 rated clubs are one of the few which do not get regular European, let alone ECL money coming in. This is why i feel the match today is critical for us, we really need to win this one.

woo hoo - 1-0 my friends - CL qualifying here we come. @Chris yep i completely understand why we have the cap i'm just wondering whether Spurs will have to look closely at raising it temporarily to attract a couple world class players. Man what a performance tonight - we were brilliant across the park. Oh and gossip pages say Bale will be getting a 13m 5 year deal shortly. Brillant stuff.
