It's no doubt Maradona. Though I'm not a Maradona fan but you know he gave the World Cup-the most prestigious trophy associated with football. Messi is good but he still couldn't produce the WC for Argentina(scored only one goal in two WC). Besides at Barcelona, he gets support from some world class players which is a huge advantage for him. On the other hand in 1986 WC there was no such big name beside Maradona. So I think he is better than Messi.

both are awesome players and u cannot compare them... but still i feel messi is quite the complete footballer as lives of footballers does matter and u can clearly say that maradona has been infamous for a time than he has been famous for... but there is no denying the fact that maradona is one of the best ever... but my personal best 3 in the world ever is Pele, Messi and then comes Maradona...

if you just say maradona has scored with fist so messi is better..... even messi scored with hand.....:p if you see the play messi plays like maradona and he learned from him.....so maradona is the master and messi is the student at present messi has come near to maradona and in time who knows he may surpass or if he goes out of barcelona team he might be a flop.....it long time to say.....we can't say these things in this early even when ronaldhino came everyone used to say he is far better than pele and maradona......but if you ask the same people now they might say no......

I've loved football since 1986, the year the argentina team won th WC and I adore maradona till today. For those who said that he's a cheat, come on... many top class players cheat too, using hand, feigning injury, diving (C. ronaldo is one of them) etc.. watch 1990 WC final and see how maradona was tackled hard by the giant germans. it's the only way to stop him. Back then, rules were more lenient.. in my opinion, both of them are great players in their own way.

non-maradona believer will always see him as a cheater, drug user etc cos that's the only thing they could say about him, and will continue to say the same thing. Perhaps these people are in denial? Well, most famous people lead a very complicated and controversial and sometimes tragic lives. Think MJ, amy winehouse, mike tyson... Being famous world over does not mean their lives have to be picture perfect. They're human too like us.. Messi is a great player and a good role model(that's what everyone thinks unless he's a scandal as good as tiger woods' and no one's yet to know) but I've yet to see him 'shine' as an individual player. He's got all the world best team mates and nearly half of them were in the spain team which won the WC last year. Was this the reason he flopped in the WC ? But we cant say this cos he plays barca more than he plays argentina, so there's a better 'communication' between him and the barca team mates.Him winning the WC in argentina jersey will be another milestone in the history of argentine football... But then again, why do you want to run your ass off when you're already world famous, earning millions of euros in a year? Maradona didn't earn this kinda of crazy money during his heyday, y'know? He played for the love of the game and the glory of his country. xoxo

Maradona best eva. He carried Argentine team in his shoulders in its glorry days with no other good players in the team. HE carried the little known Napoli team all on his own. You can't compare the 2, the only comparison is that they are both lefty. Messi is in the leage of Pele, Ronaldo(Brazil), Zidane, Johan Cruyf, George Best. Pele had 4 of the best midfielders in that era to assist him, Messi have the best midfielders in this era, Maradona was all alone and winning. C.Ronaldo is in the leage of Kaka, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Figo, Romario & Baggio

The comparison can't be made, Maradona had his time and did what he has to do, Messi still have time. It's as comparing someone who have already run the race with someone who has just started. Maradona was great, can't argue with that, if Messi continues at this pace then he'd be the better of the 2.
