David Bentley - Right player, wrong time, or just a Gooner and good ridence? What do you think?

He's a good player, has moments of brilliance. I just think that there were a couple of factors that have played into his unsuccessful time at Tottenham. (1) he was too lazy in the team at the beginning of the season. (2) then got moved to the left hand side where he struggled. (3) aaron lennon has been in great form and so kept him out the team on the right-hand-side. I dont think he will be at the club much longer though

Good points. Aaron has had a great season, definitely his most consistent yet. Roll on next season! :) As for Bentley, agree about lack-lustre start to the season. Came with big price tag and big ego - by the time he dropped the latter the manager dropped him from the team. Was pleased we bought him so oddly not that concerned to think he will be leaving soon.

i just don't think he is that good. A good player would have adapted to the left and made it his own . I just think he couldn't accept that Lennon was better. So a mental/ego issue rather than a physical or left sided one i reckon. He has to go - hell i'd rather have Gio on the left than Bentley. Now speaking of the left, please Arry don't sign Downing.

Don't entirely agree with you Stephen. I think the left sided issue is an issue for a reason - it simply isn't that easy for a right footed player to make it his own. Instinct will mean they always cut in to whip the cross inwards - too predictable to play against. Lennon was no good at this either. That said I think Bentley will go and more importantly I ABSOLUTELY AGREE with you that Downing is not the answer!

Downing is definitely not the answer. I can't understand the hype around him to be honest...but then again, I don't see him play week-in, week-out. I would like to see Gio get a chance at the Lane

Do not know why we bought him, seriously overrated, cannot execute set pieces how people originally hoped he would, plus he is too slow for a winger. To add on top of everything we have Lennon on the wing, you cannot have a player which costs how much Bentley does on the bench. One of the flops of the season for us for sure
