If they did that youd start to see decisions being overturned every week, refs are human they make mistakes sometimes small and sometimes huge if they start overturning the decisions they would be placing a great deal of pressure on refs everywhere, say it happens and in a high stakes match say the CL finals the ref would be doubting his every decision because of this rule cause we all know many cases of the refs rulings have mixed opinions and the people who disagree will basically be allowed to complain for nothing but this because they wont implement this rule wrong decisions like this will be let go its sad but thats how it is unless they scrap refs.

We have the technology. The time has come to use it. Actually, video replay should have been put in place years ago, and if it had, there would have likely not been a red card for Fletcher. However the use of it has to be determined, as in how much weight can it carry during a game. The only argument against it is that the referee's discretion would be discounted in a lot of cases. Trouble is referees have different interpretations of such things as handball, and if the replay ref has one interpretation and the field ref another, whose opinion counts? In the National Hockey League and the National Football League (USA) the way it is put is there must be clear evidence the original decision was wrong. In the Fletcher case other referees would have said it was a legal challenge, some would have awarded a penalty with no card, others a penalty with a yellow card, and some would have made the same decision as the match referee did. Soccer refs have more freedom of interpretation of the rules than those in other sports. How much of that do we take away? At the pace of todays game, especially in England referees seem to be making more mistakes because they can't keep up with the play. Maybe video can help them. I haven't seen any comments about the assistant who should have had a clear view of what happened with the Fletcher tackle. The arument can be made that he is even more culpable than the ref for not seeing what actually happened. UEFA will deny United's appeal of course. Theyre stuck in the beginning of the 20th century (the same is true of FIFA) and there's no way they'll set a precedent by revoking Fletchers red card. They should, but they won't. Not breaking new ground is the safest option for them. I am gutted for Darren. He deserves pats on the back for the tackle and he deserves to be on the field againt Barca May27 in Rome.
