With 1 year to go until the World Cup begins, who is your bet to win the tournament? I'm a Germany fan, Loew has a bit of work here and there to correct the team, it's better to qualify and iron out the errors now than to have them in 2010. Germany will have a very experienced core of players as well in 2010 at optimal age( Ballack over 100, Klose over 90, Lahm&Metersacker close to 70, Schweinsteiger&Podolski close to 80, Metzelder if he makes it close to 60), they will have vast experience of how to play tournament football (7 tournaments since 2000, 4 podium finishes and 2 finals), they have two working formations(4-4-2 to attack and 4-2-3-1 to counter attack), and they are one of only 2 European Teams to make the Final in a World Cup hosted outside Europe more than once (Italy isthe other team). 2010 is the year of the Mannschaft.

betting on Germany would be far from being a foolish idea. i'd like to say England, with Capello now in charge we look like we know what we're doing on the pitch. plus with the hurt of failing to qualify for the euro's, and this definitley being the last world cup for the likes of lampard, rio etc - to be honest, it could be the last world cup for all them as qualification is far from guaranteed - especially without a foreigner in charge! however in the african heat (i assume it will be hot over there lol! ) i think we will definitely suffer as our game is not based on keeping the ball like the south american and european teams - brazil, spain, italy and so on. so i can see us getting dehydrated, worn out, and beaten once we come up against someone who knoews how to keep the ball. i dont follow the african teams - am ashamed to say I dont know who the best two african teams are - so making a prediction is total guesswork, but i would go for spain i guess. they got so much quality in keeping the ball. like Sir Alex says, Iniesta and Xavi have probably never given the ball away in their life's. And Torres, well, he's so good he'll be mentioned alongside Van Basten, Mario Kempes and the like in the years to come. my fear fro the world cup though, is that it is going to come after a gruelling premier league that will start no earlier than usual yet finish several weeks earlier in order for the players to get together with the national teams, so it will be an intense season. and with liverpool now up to the task of challenging united, alongside chelsea, who are still a quality side who would've pushed all the way if they had hiddink in september - so if they get the right manager this summer they should be competing very strongly next - and of course Arsenal, who have had really bad injury problems this season, plus they will buy in the summer....all in all i think it could be the most competitive premiership we've seen - right before a world cup. i hope football dont lose out by to many of the game's greats not being able to make it due to injury!!
