Yesterday Shakhtar Donetsk won the UEFA Cup. It was the first European trophy for the team and the last UEFA Cup match, next year the UEFA Europa League's coming. So, yesterday I watched the final game. As the fan of German National Team I support Werder Bremen. Of course, there was some problem for Werder because Diego, Almeida and Mertesacker could not help their team. But I thought Werder still could grab the trophy. I can't say I was totally wrong. Werder had a lot of opportunities to score a goal and win the game. But opportunity is not enough; to win you should make the score. And it was the Ukrainian team who made it. First Luiz Adriano, then Jadson and with 2 to 1 the "Hirnyky" is the UEFA Cup champion. Nevertheless I liked the game. There were a lot of dangerous moments for either team. And every time my heart beat faster in expectation of goal. Naldo's direct free kick was something exceptional, as well as the last goal of Shakhtar. I mean in both cases you think the goalkeeper can hold the ball, but it just slips through his fingers. I was upset a bit because of referee. In the beginning of the game he allowed to play despite of some fouls and in the end he whistled too much in my opinion. I think it's better when referee shows the limits right from the start, maybe even books someone, but then everyone knows the bounds. Luis Medina Cantalejo (the referee of the final) said before the game: "If you set your standards and take control of the game from the beginning, you can release the reins slowly, but the players need to know that it is the referee who has control of the game, and not the media, the players or the coaches. From there on, if the players understand you and if you gain their respect, you can let them go a little bit, so that the game develops in its own way." I think the game shows something different. Any way I have no reason to criticize Cantalejo, 'cause in my opinion he didn't do any crucial mistakes. I'm glad Werder fought till the end and we had not only two half-times, but extra time too. Someone could expect that Shakhtar could get the trophy easily because of Werder's problems with starting line-up. Fortunately there were two teams and they both showed good performance. I regret Werder's not the winner but I congratulate Shakhtar on their first European trophy. Now we should say goodbye to UEFA Cup. Next year we will watch UEFA Europa League instead. I hope new format will be interesting and spectacular. This year we have still some games of different European leagues and Champions League final to watch. Enjoy the football! P.S. Yesterday two great goalkeepers marked their birthday: Petr Cech and Iker Casillas. Hope we'll see a good performance of both and a lot of saves.
