Ligue 1 final standings forecast
Por Benno Hansen
Continuing my predictions of how Europe's biggest leagues will finish here is a look at the French Ligue 1. 321 of 380 games have been played - 94 of which has been draws.

The top of the standings is rather close. Current leaders and quite probable champions are - a bit surprising perhaps? - Olympique Marseille (currently at 10 games without losing, 5 straight wins). But right in their heels are FC Girondins de Bordeaux (unbeaten at home, 5 straight wins) and at the third place we have usual title suspects and reigning double holders Olympique Lyonnais. Plus Paris Saint-Germain FC aren't entirely out of the race yet. These teams are currently at 60 to 64 points and look like they will finish in the range of 64 to 77, likely in a clutter around 70 points.

Those four teams are also the teams qualifying for next seasons Champions League and UEFA Cup spots. Unless OSC Lille or FC Toulouse manage to topple PSG (or perhaps even Lyon?) for the fourth spot.

Le Havre AC will relegate that much has been certain for quite some rounds. But who else will follow is a lot less clear as four teams are evenly distributed around the relegation bar: Stade Caen, AS St. Etienne, FC Sochaux and FC Nantes have from 31 to 33 points and are each unlikely to collect more than about 7 or 8 more points. My wild guess right now would be for Caen and Sochaux to go down - but on the other hand the squads of both Nantes and St. Etienne appear a bit injury stricken so it's really hard to say.

Current top scorer is Pierre-Andre Gignac of Toulouse with 19 goals but Paris's Guillaume Hoarau currently at 17 could over take that spot. I guess we can't really rule out Karim Benzema but he's trailing a bit at "just" 14 goals so far. The best goal however is perhaps Gourcuff's vs PSG.
