Today is the day. A day that Manchester United fans treasure, and a day that Bayern fans are reminded of the pain and heartbreak inflicted on them, by the Red Devils, 10 years ago.

Ok, so it’s a friendly match. But when is a match between an English side and a German one ever a friendly? And since when is a match between Manchester United and Bayern Munich one that is simply a run-out before the season proper. In short, it’s not, and I would be shocked if Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t send out his troops to go for the jugular in tonight’s game.

Following Utd’s defeat of Boca, and good contributions from new signings and young prospects alike, Fergie will surely be looking for a repeat performance, just as the Bayern players will be looking to follow-up on their thrashing of AC Milan. There is no doubt that Bayern got fortunate with the final score yesterday, as the Italian team now shy of their departed legend Kaka, uncharacteristically fell apart in the final minutes of the match.

There’s no doubt in my mind that by the end of the 90 minutes, it will be Manchester United that lift the Audi Cup, but also, that the Bayern players will re-live just a fragment of the disappointment that left them empty-handed in 1999.
