Oh my, football wherever you turn to! Isn’t that great? La Liga, Serie A, Carling Cup, DFB-Pokal, Coupe de la Ligue, U20 World Cup on Friday and then all European Leagues – football, football, football. The upcoming nights are going to be packed with amazing matches. Wow!
But there are other sports as well! There’s amongst others an interesting ODI cricket tournament.
ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa
Even if I don’t understand all rules, I think that cricket is really interesting. Have you heard about the upcoming tournament? English and a big part of Asian people live this sport, but other Europeans, North Africans or Americans might not know it… It’s captivating, but a bit difficult. Football is definitely easier to get and the result is less difficult to interpret.
To be honest, I think that ODIs (one day matches) are already very long. The 5-day matches (in The Ashes) are too much for me. The best matches for us beginners are Twenty20 confrontations which are intense and short (up to 4 hours).
But I guess that this competition is going to be great stuff. ODIs are quite good. I like them! And now this trophy, hosted by South Africa, is a nice chance to catch up with the rules and techniques.
The matches are going to be played in Centurion and Johannesburg. Is this already a rehearsal for the football World Cup 2010? There won’t be as many spectators for this tournament as next year but it can’t hurt… At least the hosts will know what to improve!
Most of the participants (South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, England, Pakistan, West Indies, Australia and India) played some warm up matches before the opening game tonight. This is something that’s doesn’t really exist in football. I mean, there are friendly tournaments before the league restarts, but except for that there aren’t real comparisons.
We are the champions!
Well, who can win that competition? I love that fact that some of the participants are countries that would ne never be able to play in a football world cup, like West Indies or Pakistan. The latter is a candidate for the victory of the trophy as well as South Africa or current champion Australia. It would be nice if the host would win (after all they’ve been waiting for a victory in this tournament for 11 years now even though they’re the best ODI team).
I always follow the matches on Cricinfo but I definitely need to find a live stream (if I have the time).
So, my plan: during the day I’m going to follow those cricket matches and in the evening I’ll try to watch as many football games as possible because it’s just the most awesome sport on earth!
