Upson & Campbell could end up @ Sunderland rather than Arsenal
Por 360footbal...

New West Ham manager Avram Grant has told Matthew Upson he should leave the club if his heart's not in it.

The England defender has only one year left on his contract at Upton Park, but it is understood that West Ham want amassive £7m for his services.

Sunderland, apparently, have not been put off by Upson's hefty price tag.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce may have two former Arsenal players in his central defence next season, if he snaps up free agent Sol Campbell also.

Arsenal could be set to miss out on both transfer targets.

I know Arsene Wenger did not want to sell Matty Upson in the first place, but was told to! He has not really improved since leaving us, is a steady centre half, but is liable to make silly mistakes, bit like Senderos... Also think 7 million is a bit steep for a centre half that is not an international regular. As for Sol, well he is a free agent and will be looking for the best deal possible, as I believe this will be his last season.

Yep, Sol's nearly finished. I hope he re-signs though. As for Upson, I prefer him to Senderos, but West Ham fans have had enough of him, so that's not a glowing recommendation! I never understood why we sold him. He seemed to love Arsenal. I remember Upson waxing lyrical about Arsenal in a press conference when he was on loan at Reading. Not much of what he said made the newspapers, but it was clear Matty loved Arsenal. That's not why I liked him though. I think he had a bit more pace than Senderos (not sure about now, as injuries may have taken their toll) and I feel quite sure he's physically tougher. But as you say, he's prone to errors and we can't really have that at Arsenal. http://www.360football.co.uk/Arsenal
