Bundesliga Preview
Por Terry Duffelen
1. Bundesliga,,
I have been writing a Bundesliga blog for a couple of season now. It's called the Bundesbag and is part of Some People Are On The Pitch. The blog written from a English novices point of view so it may come across as naive to proper Bundesliga fans. However, for anyone who is interested, I've posted a season preview which I hope you'll find good fun.

Bayern will be Champion. I have no doubt about it.

You want it to be Bayern, Mani. That's for sure. ;) But I guess you're right. It seems like they'll be very strong this season. I just hope Freiburg is playing a good season and won't be relegated to 2. Bundesliga next year (as you announced). I'm curious about Schalke's performances, now with Magath as manager...

I'm happy to be proved wrong about Freiburg Sophie and always pull for the smaller clubs if that doesn't sound too patronising. While I've predicted Bayern for the title I like the look of Stuttgart this season.

@Mani: Your defense and goalkeeper will be a problem, Mani. But I also think you will win it this year. @Sophie: It's a pity Toprak is injured, btw. I would have liked to see him in the BL this season. He has a lot of potential and I hope Freiburg will come to terms without him.

Terry, Why did Hamburg self destruct last year and why did Martin Jol go to Ajax?? Bayern for the title is like predicting Man Utd and Real Madrid there all so arrogant none of them will win.

Teddy, I guess Martin Jol figured he'd only get one chance at the Ajax job. Very few managers get the chance to say no to Ajax twice. Personally I think that they fell away because of fixtures. They were competing in the Bundesliga and the German and UEFA Cup. I think they ran out of steam.

@Sophie: Freiburg is more than welcomed back. I always liked them. They are the "different" club in the Bundesliga. @Terry and Teddy: Seems Jol wanted to heavily invest in a new team with new players, but Hamburg did not have the money. But now with Ze Roberto they should play a good season. Schalke will do fine, but too early for them to go all the way.

@Mani/Sophie: why is Freiburg different/special?

@Dmitri: Well they are very much run like a family business. They had a legenday coach in Finke for a decade or so. Always did things differently, never in for the money. Their president (not sure he is still there) never went into the stadium for the games, he said he was afraid of getting a heart attach.

smart president! i hope he's still alive, playing golf or having barbeque, while his money keeps the team intact.

@mani I didn't realise that there was this dimension to Freiburg. But do they have a serious chance of staying in the 1.Bundesliga?

@Terry: I think so. Normally (this is not written in stone) the clubs who advance to the Bundesliga are doing fine the first year. In the second year they have real problems.
