Ryan Shawcross should be banned for as long as Ramsey is out for

Ryan Shawcross is decent footballer and probably a decent person as well, judgling by his tearful reaction. However, his tackle on Aaron Ramsey was reckless. If the authorities really want to clamp down on this sort of thing and protect the game's most skilful players, then Shawcross should be banned for as long as it takes Ramsey to regain full fitness.

If that policy were implemented players would think twice before maiming a fellow profession, even if it be accidental. Of course, everyone says there was no intent on the part of Shawcross. To tell the truth, Martin Taylor's tackle of Eduardo looked far worse. But nonetheless Shawcross must be culpable.

The tackle wasn't as high as Taylor's, but his leg swung at the ball or player (delete which one doesn't apply) with excessive force. If you study the replays (that weren't shown on Sky Sports and you can draw your own conclusions from that decision) you can see what Shawcross is concentrating on. I'll let you decide. Do you think it was the ball?

I'm not that sure. All I know is Shawcross is swanning off on England duty while Ramsey is in hospital. Surely that can't be right!
