Well, it time for a little update for all of you out there in love with the Norwegian style football. My last sentence in the last blog after the
Germany
match went something like this:
Now we believe anything is possible.
Today we don't. Today we read Egils comments that the match wasn't that bad, allthough everybody who watched even just five minutes of the game know that the just result would be 9-0 and not 2-0. He also said that
Netherlands
were better than expected (after champagne celebrations in the weekend combined with "nothing" to play for).
The Dutch team exposed a passive
Norway
and dismantled them. It was allmost like a video on attacking skills showed to the kids in a
Ajax
' trainingprogram. Never once did Norway press Holland in any way. Carew did ok, considering he was as lonely as Amundsen when he reached the north pole, but was never a
real
problem. The rest of the team plantet their feet deep in their own area.
The Holland coach and players wondered after the math why Norway didn't even try to press higher, even though they were trailing and really really really needed at least one point. 0-0 against
Macedonia
and a loss now, means that Drillo (who still means anything is possible) need to win alle the last three matches.
And there is the players. No matter what system you try to play, the players have to posess a minimum of skills. Without Hangeland (bookings) we throw in a 30plus debutant and expect him to deal with what may be the best attacking force (internationals speaking of course) in the world right now. Our biggest "stars" are merely teamplayers in their respective clubs, and the rest isn't close to the level of players in the 90's.
The hope for happy Norwegian campers is fading real quick. Just as good. I would rather watch
Scotland
anyway. And that says alot!
