Old heads and young shoulders

I opened my newspaper this morning to see a rallying call from Nottingham Forest’s assistant manager and his comments made me believe we have a really good chance of getting into the Championship play-offs this season.

David Kelly said in an interview you can see here that experience is vital to achieve success in the division, something which Nottingham Forest have in the form of Paul McKenna and Dele Adebola.

Big striker Adebola in particular is likely to get more opportunities in the first team over the coming weeks as Robert Earnshaw has been ruled out for up to a month due to a calf injury he sustained while playing international football for Wales.

Personally, I agree with Kelly that a successful team at Championship level needs experienced players in the team, as this can help the younger footballers at the club to develop.

I think the team which Billy Davies has put together at the City Ground can do well this season and we have a great combination of know-how and youthful exuberance.

This is making me seriously consider putting a football bet on us achieving a play-off position come the end of the season, especially if Davies manages to bring in more players of a similar level to what we currently have.

After years in the doldrums, I believe the Scot is the right man to bring success back to Nottingham Forest and take us once again into the Premier League.
