Keep passion in football

Nottingham Forest have been in the headlines for the wrong reasons this season and I am glad to read that our goalkeeper is calling for the players to still be able to show their emotions.

Lee Camp, who has looked one of the best keepers in the Championship this season, wants players to be able to show their passion on the pitch without the fear of retribution.

Earlier this season, Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson was accused of inciting Derby County fans during the team’s victory at the City Ground.

He has since apologised for his antics, which saw him wave a corner flag in celebration in front of the opposition fans, and is still waiting to see if he will be punished by the FA.

Camp said in an interview which can be seen here that players should not inflame supporters but must still be able to show their emotions while on the football field.

He added that football fans must also accept some responsibility and not spill onto the pitch to confront players and stewards.

In an interview in which Camp seems to speak a lot of sense, he said: “Maybe players should not inflame the situation but, when it is the heat of the moment and the adrenaline is flowing, I would rather have a passionate player than one who does not care.”

Personally, I agree with his comments and cannot imagine passion and emotion being taken out of football. If this were to happen I believe the game would be ruined and hope that all fans can take some accountability for their actions to ensure ugly incidents remain out of the spotlight.
