(Spurs) Our season so far and Expectations
Por Chris Christofi
I have heard allot going into this season, i for one had huge expectations. Especially after the first game vs Man City, where we mauled them but failed to win, i was high in hope.

We are now in February, and although Redknapp and co are still talking about the title and how we can beat anyone on a given night, the facts are that:

- We are 13 points off the leaders in the league
- Our goal difference is +7, our challengers have +17 to +32
- We still cannot beat the top 4 (One win against Arsenal does not count)

In Europe we had a better than expected run, but allot of that is down to the fact that Inter and Werder are having poor seasons.

Allot of talk goes on about our attacking football, however we only scored 3 goals in the league this season on 2 occasions. Our defense on the other hand is leaking them in regularly, barely have a clean sheet all season.

To add to the pain, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man C all got stronger in the transfer period, so the challenge for 4th place just got bigger.

I for one do not understand the Piennar "hype", other than him being cheap and a half decent passer of the ball, i do not see where he will help us. He is clearly not a scorer (barely scored past 5 in a season over his career), he is not big, not very fast and not a very good defender. At 28y he is also not a prospect, he is a Jenas to me (ie a fringe player) just a better passer but also weaker and not English.

Spurs needs at least one world class striker. I think Crouch is a good supplementary player and Defoe can offer some options, Pav can be a good sub, however we need someone which can play good off the ball and play on through balls (which we do not do at all). I felt Suarez at 24m was the solution, now he is not (bought by Liverpool). I hope we do not get Forlan or Fabiano, they are not long term solutions and will cost quite a bit. Aguero is a good choice (we made an offer) however i doubt we have the cash to pull that one off.

We seriously need a proper DM, someone which can rotate with Huddlestone. Palacios is a Wigan level player, he cannot pass at all and i cannot see him as a solution. Diarra is a good one, i heard they wanted 18m for him though, not sure he goes that much. If we can cut that price down it would be a good option.

Ekotto is not our long term solution at Left back. How many goals did we let in due to him this year? Keeps being beaten on the offside and makes way too many mistakes.

I still think Modric is way over hyped. If Barcelona came and offered over 40m for him now, i would take it. I feel he can be a liability in midfield due to his size, he makes allot more mistakes than people pay attention to, rarely sets up a proper through ball and scores sparingly. At 25y (26 in the summer) i think we should cash in.

Chris, I disagree about Modric. I think the hype is justified (as do Chelsea and Barca) we simply do not play well without him. His link play is as good as i've seen in the EPL this year. I agree re Pienaar - waste of money. Kranjcar is better. Jenas is nearly playing really well, nearly. Palacios has been relatively poor this year though he played well v Man U and v Bolton today. He is getting better slowly. BAE is growing on me through quite consistent performances this year. Not so error prone. Agree re a world class striker - the problem is there aren't many around. Etoo would be nice lol. And Diarra would be good and needed...

Chris - agree. I'm not too confident that we can last the pace and make the top 4 again. Also re Pienaar - Kranjcar definitely gets my vote. And how about Cavani?

come on Spurs, you guys made the season. and thats in a tight & balanced league. MU and Chelsea slipping in February is bad sign for them, Arse play great footie as ever but take away Djourou and Arsha, suddenly Cesc is not the leader that he is and Van Persie shuts down. City is not a superior side and played more matches. there's your chance for the top 4. make this a memorable season, please. for neutrals if not for the fans. i'm certainly enjoying EPL this time thanks to Spurs

Torres was a great sell for 50m if you ask me. I was saying it 1 month ago that if i was the Liverpool chairman and was offered 50m now i would offload him. Not sure i would pay 35m for Carrol though, but if i had the option of having Suarez and Carrol instead of Torres? Would definitely go for that.

We need another proper DM, i would go for possibly Lee Cattermole. He is a tough young Englishman, probably not on the expensive, i would probably have him in rotation or with 2 DM with the more creative Huddlestone also in the team. I would of said Suarez as our striker, but that option is gone. About Cavani i am not sure, he seems to be a good striker, not sure he would improve on what we have though. Maybe Danny Welbeck is a good buy, he should not be too expensive, but for sure he is not a world class striker. I still like Young (ashley). He is not really a striker though, but he can play behind in a VDV role, on both wings which offers cover to Lennon and Bale or even play Bale at LB and Young on the left wing.

Out Pavs deserved more to be honest, he has been decent when he came on and should play allot more with the problems we have upfront. Gallas will probably leave, heard he got a nice offer from the US. Bentley is not bad, nowhere near what we paid though and he deserves to start, just not for us. Cudicini is past it, and Pletikosa is a dillema to me. Santos does not ever seem to be able to play for us, still not sure where he should play.Roman Pavlyuchenko (offload for 9m) Probably Newcastle Giovani Dos Santos (offload for 6m) Abroad, Italy showed interest Robbie Keane (offload for 6m) For 6m i think it should not be a problem Wilson Palacios (offload for 8m) We can get at least that, Italy also showed interest David Bentley (offload for 8m) Maybe we can only get 7m, but he can be sold William Gallas (Contract) CarloCudicini (Contract) Stipe Pletikosa (loan end)
