The corresponding fixture last season was settled in the last minute by Serbian Nemanja Vidic's strike, but this is a whole new match, and a whole new 90 minutes.
ÂManchester United 1-0 Sunderland, 2008 Sunderland manager Steve Bruce makes a return visit to Old Trafford, his former home, and hopes that his 8th placed side can put a dent in Manchester United's Premier League charge. The late kick-off on Saturday provides last year's Champions and current league leaders Man Utd with the opportunity to open up a 3 point lead over 2nd placed Chelsea, who must do battle with Liverpool on Sunday. Steve Bruce's side will be confident that they get something from the match, with both strikers Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones having no problems finding the net. Bent is currently tied in 2nd place with Wayne Rooney in the EPL's top goalscoring charts; both having so far scored 6 goals since the league season began. Sir Alex Ferguson will be unable to call on Michael Owen, who was injured during the side's midweek Champions League match. However, the manager will most likely keep faith with Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov, who more than impressed after having come on to replace Owen against Wolfsburg. In other team news, United may have to do without the services of Park Ji-Sung, while Edwin Van der Sar and Owen Hargreaves are still ruled out. Ben Foster will most likely continue starting in goal, but Van der Sar is close to making a comeback, having already returned to training. Meanwhile, Steve Bruce has a full squad to choose his side from, with no reported injuries. The former Manchester United defender will be hoping that his side can shake some of the defensive problems that have seen his side lose 3 games so far this season. Anton Ferdinand could well return to Sunderland's starting line-up, going head-to-head against his brother, Rio. Another former United player Keiran Richardson will also feature and hope to get one over his former side.
