Serbian "eternal derby" approaching
Por Ognjen Cicic

In the first round of the "spring" part of Serbian championship called Super Liga, we again have a clash between two best clubs in Serbia, and I dear say , in former Yugoslavia. It is called the "eternal derby" because literaly the whole nation is split in favour of one of the other club, having Red Star in lead for most of the time in fan numbers, although after split of Yugoslavia, Partizan managed to do better in new shrinked league without any other club to fear but Red Star. When googling I found words "eternal derby" for croatian clash between Hajduk and Dinamo Zagreb which is not true, because although those two clubs were members of "great 4" in former yugoslavia league (Red Star, Partizan, Hajduk Split, Dinamo Zagreb) and clashes between all those clubs were derby's, only clash between Red Star and Partizan, the biggest of all held the title "Eternal".

Wiki says , romanians have eternal derby too, but I don't know that so can't comment. Just know the croatian is not true.

Anyway, the Serbian football can not be imagined without the legendary rivalry of two clubs, who often splits familie affections when football comes to place :) In my family for example it is 3:2 in favour of Red Star.
Almost famous as their football players are the core supporters of two clubs , Delije - Red Star hardcore fans and Grobari - Partizan hardcore fans.

Red Star is the most succesfull Serbian football club ever, with most chamionships won (25), national cups won (22) and beeing european champion in 1991 and world club champion in 1992.

Partizan is the second best, having just few titles less the Red Star (20), also cups (10) and beeing runner up in european chamions league in 1996, loosing only to Real Madrid in the finals.

Again the ratio between wins and loss is in favour of Red Star (57wins-45draws-35loss)

Once again, as many years before, the faith of champion of Serbia will be decided in the clash of the national titans, this time on Partizan Belgrade soil. There can be only one ... :) winner, offcourse ...

Please write what you know about the alltime derby od Serbia and ask any question you like, I'll be happy to provide answers ...

Yes, they have many songs dedicated to their clubs and the derby itself. I have uploaded some of the best in few clips in the blog. Some of them literaly live for these matches, often singing "Red Star is my life, everything else does not matters..." or "... I will give my life for Partizan...". Serbian eternal derby is realy something we can be proud on, despite few incidents that happened on occasions, generaly due to lack of jobs and dissatissfaction of youth with current state of econmy and the recent wars arround here.. all that produced some hardcore fans ready to go over the edge, so there was big fights between fans, even fatalities (one died beeeing struck in chest by flair rocket from the other side of the stadium !?!?). But I hope that authorities will prevent this becoming a standout for football hooligans. My dad did'nt take me to any derby so far, because he was afraid for me in the middle of the crowd of 50.000 people ... he hopes that this year he will take me along to watch my first eternal derby :)

Maybe I lost a part Ognjen, you are Delije or Grobari? I saw some brazilians that I did not know in the first clip, they are good players? Fights between fans aren´t a problem only there, it´s sad but it happens all over the world but i hope you can see a big match in loco soon, it´s a fantastic sensation, even better when your team wins.

I am Red star fan, but not hardcore, I'm too young for that, but my affections go to Delije offcourse...

Was my mistake, now I see that Delije and Grobari are for the hardcore supporters. But those hooligans dominate the entire stadium? There are no safe places for common fans? Because of some "torcidas organizadas" here in Brazil some games can also become dangerous events but in most games still see women and children attending the stadiums.

Delije usualy go on north part of the stadium and grobari on the south. those are also cheapest seats. That leaves east and west for 'normal" spectators. I think I will go to the west for starters....
