Wouldn't you know!? Of course
Norway
and Drillo outsmarted and won with that single goal over uninspired germans. After only two trainings with his new team, Egil Olsen seems to have got everything right. The performance saw
Germany
with the possession, but very rarely getting the chanses against the extremely thight, organized and disciplined defense. When Norway got the ball, they were fast and direct. A little more coolness in front of goal would see at least a couple more goals. Not to mention the penalty that Braaten missed out on when he was runned down in the area.
Anyway. Drillo got what he wanted. The team needed a victory like this to forget the catastrophic 2008, and getting it without our three "stars" (Riise, Carew and Iversen) is kind of impressive. On the other hand. This is the team we know. A team waiting for the other team to attack. A team that tries it best to avoid possession. A boring team which could actually take the norwegian people on a tour to
South Africa
(which btw also is our next opponent).
The coach is happy with his team, and said in norwegian papers that his analysis concerning Germany were "spot-on". He also points out that even though he is happy with the result, theres a lot of things to work at. Pointing out the counter attacks and defensive organization.
In Norway the papers go crazy and the hype is on. Everybody seems to forget that Germany was uninspired, tired and slow. But thats just the way it
goes
, I guess. Drillos did the thing everybody was hoping for, but no one really believed. Now we believe anything is possible.

Congratulations on the win. I could not see the win. Was it well deserved? From your description it sounds as Norway played like they always play.

Yes, I would say it was well deserved and it seems that the press in Germany also second that. Even though Germany had their chances, Norway was faster and allways looked more dangerous when they eventually attack. The difference between the "new" Norway and the "old" is that Drillo knows how to organize. And also the speed and number of players that went for the counter attack is higher now than before.
