THE UNWANTED PASS............!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......................

Gary Neville passed the ball to English team-mate and goalkeeper Paul Robinson, the ball was coming steadily towards him; until the moment he pulled the trigger.

Paul Robinson slashed at the ball to clear it, but unfortunately for him, the ball took a bump just when he was about to send to another world.

The own goal saw the Croats win 2-0.

So is it correct to sought help of the goalie every time you end up making a mess in the defence.

In Euro Cup 2004, Steven Gerrard made a blunder by opting to pass the ball to David James. The never reached the goalkeeper, instead Henry intercepted it and earned team a penalty and a win.

The usage of back-pass is extensive, even though the rule of grabbing the back-pass has been removed.I understand the need to help out the defence as and when possible; but relaying on the goalie so much, crops up the chances of mistakes.

If the usage of back-passes is limited, then I feel the strategy seems to be a life saver, but the way it is used, own goals and mishaps look like regulars.

So my message to the defenders, just clear the ball, stop bailing yourself out with back-passes.

Its an interesting idea but you don't realise the importance of the back pass too. The Robinson fiasco was a problem with the ground (or Robinson!) and not because of the back pass. Comparing the ratio of back passes that lead to a goal is very low and the goal keeper has a huge box to keep the ball into. Not to mention the goal keeper is highly protected in terms of attacks on the body by a striker. Also if you clear the ball instead of back passing it to your goal keeper if you have a player charging then you are also losing precious possession. How about you see the same situation differently? The defender clears the ball but it falls to the opposition and that leads to a goal..? Of course its not an own goal but a goal none the less.

if u see the ratio of goals created by back pass it would b negligible than goals from throwing and corners if he wont back pass the ball,70 out of100 time dey will concede either corner or throwin.......................so now u choose which one u like
