All of last week football fans in Cape Town were looking forward to what promised to be a football battle at Athlone stadium on Saturday. So Saturday morning I woke up to run my weekend errands as well as pick up tickets for the battle later that afternoon. However to my dismay and many others as I found out later, tickets had sold out 4 days earlier!!! Anyway as a true fan I figured I will join the hustle and bustle, get tickets at the stadium push a few grannies out the way etc… anyway on arriving at the Stadium I was greeted by these scenes.

           

Bus load after bus load of School kids being dropped off at the stadium, All dressed in red, screaming Ajax Ajax..wink wink…(shh.. we really like chiefs)  Anyway I find out from a reliable source that Ajax Cape Town had given away tickets to all these kids!!! Their right as the home team…Ok I can’t fight that… let the kids play right?? Its cool, 2010 around the corner, your stadium looks packed on TV, Supersport is beaming you all across the world!! Yep I get it!! However hundreds of Chiefs fans who had all just got their hard earned cheques a day or two earlier really felt hard done… even I as a Santos fan just there for the festivities really felt this could have been handled differently. Anyway I rolled on home to catch the game on public TV but nope.. oh yeah supersport owns those rights by the way.. so I settled for the CAF youth championships South Africa vs Nigeria, entertaining game all round, final score though RSA 2 NIG 3.

Anyway back at Athlone, game went on as scheduled, and being the intertubed individual I am I followed all the goings on via m.espnsoccernet.com gamecast. it turns out….With a large portion of the Athlone crowd consisting of Chiefs fans(kickoff.com)

The final score on the day was a disappointing 0-0 after all the hullaballoo, I got to see 5 goals on TV. Anyway that’s besides the issue, other games over the weekend around the PSL also yielded draws all round: Orlando Pirate 1 – 1 Bay United, Free State stars 0-0 Bidvest Wits.
