Marshalling the right back position for Arsenal in the unbeaten season was the Cameroonian international Lauren. Like his defensive counterparts Lauren had become first choice after the retirement of veteran Lee Dixon and since then was permanent in that position. Lauren had the qualities suiting the Arsenal brand of play-quick feet, strong and athletic, quick passing abilities and his pacy runs and link up with Ljungberg provided the ammunition for the front two from the right hand side..

He was the kind of player who would remain continually involved in the thick of the things. An assured defender, he had a tremendous work rate running back and forth to influence the game. Although he didn’t possess much finesse in front of goal, he more than made up for it with his continuous assists from the right flank. His sometimes outrageous play earned him many a referee’s wrath and things got really out of hand in the verbal abuse incident with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Despite that there can be no denying the fact that Lauren was an integral part of the defensive quartet of arsenal. At the twilight of his career in 2007, Lauren made a move to Portsmouth after 7 fruitful years at Arsenal.
