If you have watched the 2 games of the Season so far (you have missed something if you haven't), the new face is easily recognisable. The zealous personna of Kolo Toure has been replaced by a more solemn looking Thomas Vermaelen and its a face that shows promise, commitment and a bright future for the Club..
When the erstwhile Ajax skipper was added to our ranks this summer, people raised doubts over whether an exhorbitant "12 million pounds" was justified in this move. Whether he could bridge the gap between Dutch Eredivisie and Premier league was questionable alotugh he has proven himself in the Dutch League. 5 days into his Premier League debut for Arsenal, I have only words of praise for the Professor and his new disciple.
Vermaelen has looked professional and assuring in his first 2 outing, the absence of which we were fearing. It may be a product of my whims and fancies but he seems to have an uncanny resemblance with Nemajna Vidic who turned around fortune for the Red Devils. We may be speaking too soon and the Belgian International has a long way to go to prove himself. The ease with which he thumped a header past Tim Howard during the weekend shows that he's up for the Premier League battle and ready to be counted among his big counterparts.
Yesterday's victory against Celtic demonstrated his ball clearing and efficient tackling abilities to a great extent and in Gallas-Vermaelen, we may have found the elusive partnership. The two seem to complement each other well and Vermaelen's presence seems to have given Gallas his lost touch back. The manager believes Gallas is in his best form in the past 2 years.
Vermaelen himself has found the English game intriguing and he says:-
I have enjoyed the last two games a lot. I like the English way of football, the atmosphere and the desire for it. For me i like it a lot and i like to play.
May the Honeymoon Period continue..
