Mick McCarthy and the usual media hypocisy
Por JB
Although I agree McCarthy changing 10 players on Tuesday night was ludicrous, once again  that the response from the media smacks of a little bit of hypocrisy. The recent trend for ‘resting players’ was started by Ferguson and Wenger years ago with their disrespectful attitude towards the League Cup. This has now spread to other teams following suit and to all competitions including the Premier League. I cannot remember a similar furore when the likes of Man United and Arsenal do such a similar thing. Take for example Arsenal’s game last week in Olympiacos. I think from memory they changed 10 or maybe all 11 players from the previous game. Not a peep of criticism from the media just the usual, ‘he’s giving the ‘kids’ another chance’ We now have Wenger daring to join the criticism of McCarthy and suggesting that this has given Man United an unfair advantage and bought into question the integrity of the Premier League. This despite him continually ‘resting players’ and as in the case last week demeaning the Champions League? How do you think Standard Liege felt when they heard Wenger’s team selection for the Olympiacos game? If Arsenal had beaten Olympiacos and Liege won against AZ, then they would have qualified, not the Greeks. So please is it too much to expect some consistency in this McCarthy debate, he has just followed an already well trodden path instigated by the supposed two top managers in England..
