Yes,
they partied like it was 1999...as indeed that was the last time
Spurs
beat
Arsenal
in the league.
So should Arsenal fans be upset? Every now and then the sun gets eclipsed by the moon. It was bound to happen one day, right?
Well, I'm proud of the team. They played as well as they can. But there are obvious deficiencies in it and hopefully Wenger will learn from this. What should he learn? I'd say the following:
1) Tactics - use the wings! When a team defends with two banks of four, you need to get behind them. Surely, Wenger knows this. Playing passes through the eye of a needle won't work when a team defends as doggedly as Spurs did with an in-form keeper to boot! Wenger should have started with Walcott and he should allowed him freedom to cut inside and support the isolated Bendtner. I wouldn't say Wenger was tactically naive against Spurs because there were NO TACTICS. Just a formation. That's not good enough.
2) Almunia has to be dropped. He's not good enough. Why didn't he catch the corner that led to Rose's opener? He was not being challenged, yet he chose to punch. Then he slipped. And when the ball came back in at head height he seemed to let it go straight through him. Appalling goalkeeping! Stop trying to pretend he is good enough, Wenger!
3) Sagna needs to step it up or ship out. What's up with him? Why did he play Bale onside for Tottenham's second. Sagna's not the same player we saw last season.
4) We need more cover to sustain a title challenge. Wenger must have known we'd have injuries. The point is we had inadequate cover. Bendtner's good but he's no van Persie. Campbell's done well but alongside Silvestre our central defence looks a little weak.
5)
Denilson
's not good enough.
6) Diaby should release the ball quicker. Why does he always hang on to it too long? I saw him remonstrate with Walcott because he thought Theo should have come short for the ball instead of looking for the ball in behind. Diaby, you are a plank! You should have realised that keeping possession in the middle of the field counts for nothing. You have to hurt the opposition. You don't hurt the opposition enough because you need to learn to be more positive. Until you learn that you will never be world class. So stop dreaming Diaby and start learning! And don't have a go at Theo because the youngster has more positive instincts than you and shows you up for what you are: a big-headed, going-nowhere average midfielder who loses the ball too often!

Pretty spot on with your analysis though... who was your Arsenal MOTM?

Diaby twice refused to pass the ball to Theo during the Barca game even after Theo had run himself in a very promising position. He did that again yesterday. Sad thing is we have to learn to live with it because being French Wenger wont let him leave. As for Silly-vester...how do some of these people find themselves in the Premeier League?Mkenya

I had Campbell as my MOTM, Dan. But when Robin van Persie came on, I thought he did amazingly well. I don't know why my grades didn't come out. Spurs' best players were Gomes, King, Dawson and Bale, for me. Their worst were Huddlestone and Kaboul.

I make you right MKenya in regard to Diaby...he often hangs on to the ball too long. On Silvestre though, I didn't think he was that bad. He's not that good either though, so I won't be crying if he leaves this summer so long as Wenger gets an adequate replacement.

Rebuilding time. 1 goalkeeper, 1 central defender. Maybe 1 defensive midfielder. Any suggestions?

In addition I'd say we need at least 2 central defenders as it looks like we could lose 3 or 4 this summer...and a striker is needed as clearly Eduardo is not the same player he once was

Since wenger is resigned to winning a trophy on the cheap,we are stuck with half baked cookies the likes of diaby, denilson and the over-rated lightweight nasri.Chelsea plays prettier futball these days than arsenal because they have quality (mature) players who play with pride and passion. It is painful to watch this forever young arsenal team tremble in the presence of top opposition and beat their chest endlessly after dominating minnows.Until wenger abandons his soccer-academy approach to the premiership, they will always make it to the party but never go home with the beauty!

Agree with you Malamax on Diaby and Denilson, but I think you're being a bit harsh on Nasri...I think he will come good. Also I think Arsenal play prettier football than Chelsea, but as we saw against Wigan, it's not winning football. I'll take trophies over style any day!
