So another World Cup opener and not too surprisingly there are concerns. I stated before this tournament started that we could potentially do well but again it will come down to if our best, in form and experienced players are on the pitch being used in the right way and yet again I have serious doubts they are.

Lets get Greengate out of the way- Green is a good solid goalie who up until now hasn't really let us down. Unfortunately, once again, our media have created such an issue around the number 1 jersey that the pressure once again must be enormous. I also feel Capello should accept some responsibility for this- had he come out 2 weeks ago and said "My number 1 is....." the press would have found something else to harp on about and whoever was picked could of started preparing and focusing for the game without the media creating such a storm.

Did anybody notice how tired some of players looked at around 75 mins onwards? Could it be anything to do with the fact that very few of the players out there has played a full 90 minute game for over 3 weeks?

Heskey again was a big talking point. Bottom line everybody knows his finishing is shocking. However he worked hard again for England and played his role well. The question is do we need "a Heskey" we have some great technical players who simply do not utilise the best skills they can offer because more often than not the easy approach is the long ball to Heskey. We didn't put more than 3 passes together for the first half hour and that was the goal! For me Rooney has developed so much as a player this season he is more than capable of playing a lone striker role with Gerrard supporting behind and I feel most definately Joe Cole needs to be on the pitch providing more creative flair and guile from the left. Throw Lamps in with his timely runs into the box. Barry holding and Lennon with his pace and improving delivery then we could actually destroy teams.

Capello's decision to a) start with a solid but clearly not fit James Milner was very strange and then b) bringing on a fast, if not very direct, RIGHT sided player on the left in his place absoloutely baffles me. Joe Cole, despite not getting regular football at Chelsea gives us something we don't have a creative, clever and very experienced player who could really open up defenses.

I really hope Capello identifies his errors for the next game although I fear his stubborness will simply see Barry come in for Milner and Gerrard moving to the left. Nobody wants to be proved wrong more than me but at the moment I'm worried.
