Liverpool to spend their way out of trouble

With their debts now cleared and a unifying coach at the helm Liverpool is set for a busy summer and brighter future.
The NESV group, who bought the club from previous owners George Gilett and Tom Hicks last October, had kept the amount available to Kenny Dalglish a guarded secret, with rumours suggesting the club would have to sell to buy.
But if the papers are to believed the club is set to embark on a spending spree akin to that of oil-rich Manchester City.
Jordan Henderson is the first player to arrive, with a deal worth £20million mooted. Next on the wanted list is Charlie Adam, Stuart Downing and Phil Jones, who would probably cost in the region of £35 million. It is interesting to see the reaction of the press in all of this. The reaction has been largely positive despite £20million being a hugely excessive fee for a player like Henderson, no matter how much potential he has.
If Man City had spent that money would the press reaction have been the same? I doubt it. When they buy someone it is glutenous excess, when Liverpool do the same it is simply paying the market rate for top talent.
Either way it again highlights the need to have cash in order to succeed in the Premier League. Liverpool have had a couple of seasons where they have reigned in the spending, and they have consequently dropped down the table. Now they have realised that cash is the decisive factor, and Kenny certainly is holding back in spending it.
